Here's pictures of an M4 Bayonet on an M1 Carbine; note that a Type 3 barrel band with a bayonet lug is NOT being used. As I understand it, there were several different methods tried to attached M4s to carbines before the lugged barrel band was developed and approved for production. This appears to be a T8 developmental bayonet.

The OPs bayonet and scabbard are of the 16" M1905 configuration. The M1917 bayonet would not fit the 1905 scabbard due to blade length and the retention tabs on the 1905. There was a purpose built plastic scabbard for the M1917 for that reason starting in about 1944 and continuing through the mid 1960s.

Later scabbards may be correct for later M5A1's. The bayonet was in one big pile of M5's, M6's and M7 bayonets. The scabbard came from another dealer pile of just scabbards. BTW: Gun show prices on edged weapons, especially US bayonets and knives, seem to be a bit less than militaria show prices for the same items.
