The Mahdi who is mentioned in the hadiths is not the so-called awaited Mahdi mentioned by that deviant group, the Ithna ‘Ashari (Shi’ah) who claim that he entered the tunnel and is awaiting the order to emerge, and whose name they say is Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-‘Askari.
According to authentic Hadiths, the Mahdi is a prophesied leader who will appear before the Day of Judgment. He will restore justice, unite the Muslim Ummah, and lead alongside Prophet Jesus. Many scholars affirm that the Hadiths about the Mahdi reach the level of Mutawatir, meaning they are widely reported and accepted.
Many people claimed that the Mahdi has emerged or will emerge to support their personal aims and misguided beliefs, such as the Qadianis (Ahmadis), Baha’is, Shi`ah and other deviant groups.
In the present distressed situation many people including scholars are found to talk about the Renaissance of Islam and the emergence of Imam Mahdi.
