Sundarban In India Map

Sundarbans, vast tract of forest and saltwater swamp forming the lower part of the Padma (Ganges [Ganga])- Brahmaputra River delta in southeastern West Bengal state, northeastern India, and southern Bangladesh.

The Sundarbans mangrove forest, one of the largest such forests in the world (140,000 ha), lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers on the Bay of Bengal. It is adjacent to the border of India’s Sundarbans World Heritage site inscribed in 1987.

The Sundarban National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve in West Bengal, India. It is part of the Sundarbans on the Ganges Delta, and adjacent to the Sundarbans Reserve Forest in Bangladesh.

Covering an area of about ten thousand square kilometers, the Sundarbans make up the world’s biggest halophytic mangrove forests. Composed by the confluence of two major rivers, namely, the Ganga River and Brahmaputra River, also the Sundarbans is renowned around the world for its Royal Bengal Tigers.

Sundarbans National Park in India protects the largest mangrove forest in the world and is home to over 400 Bengal tigers.
