Nutria are native to South America. Roughly a hundred years ago marketers touted nutria as a get rich quick scheme to rural Oregon folk. Raise nutria and the fur buyers will pay big money to you! There was a definite demand for the fur, but the demand was finite. When there were a lot more nutria than the market could use the industry collapsed.

Hah! Maybe this could prove a solution to the problem with this invasive and from what I read, destructive animal. I have little doubt that, like most animals, nutria would be edible. as for palatability, I would think that has more to do with the preparation. I have eaten many types of critter that fall outside the normal diet of most people.
