Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo (19 June 1917 – 1 July 1999) was a Zimbabwean revolutionary and Socialist [1] politician who served as Vice-President of Zimbabwe from 1990 until his death in 1999.
Joshua Nkomo, Black nationalist in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) and leader of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU). In independent Zimbabwe he served as a vice president (1990–99) under his political rival, Robert Mugabe.
Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo ( – ) was the leader and founder of the Zimbabwe African People's Union from the Ndebele tribe.
Most of the seats were won by Mugabe's party. When Mugabe became Prime Minister in 1980, he offered Nkomo any position in the government, and Nkomo accepted the role of Minister of Home Affairs. However, tensions emerged between the two parties, and in 1982, Nkomo was forced to resign.
