Bacteria have an extraordinary ability to maintain and recover their morphology even after being twisted out of shape. Researchers know that shape is determined by the cell wall, yet little is known ...
News Medical: Bacteria change their morphology when acquiring drug resistance, study reveals
A new study suggests a novel mechanism of how DNA helps shape cells. In bacteria, morphology depends on the peptidoglycan (PG) cell wall, but scientists still do not understand how the wall interacts ...
Hematopathology Morphology performs complete blood counts (CBC) and analyzes cellular morphology in peripheral blood and some body fluids. The laboratory also performs a wide range of cytochemical stains. Special Coagulation performs testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients who may have bleeding or clotting disorders.
What does this mean? Sperm morphology refers to the size and shape of sperm. It's one factor that healthcare professionals look at as part of a semen test. The test helps show if you're able to have children, called fertility. In the lab, technicians look at sperm under a microscope to see if the sperm meet strict standards.
Shape (morphology). Typical sperm have oval heads and long tails, which work together to help sperm move. In general, sperm shape isn't as important to fertility as quantity or movement. But the more sperm there are that have a typical shape, the more likely it is for pregnancy to happen.
Analytic tests for assessing the fertility status of (primarily) male patients include general semen analysis, post-vasectomy analysis, antisperm antibody assay and the assessment of individual sperm morphology (using World Health Organization or Kruger's strict criteria).
