Kathakali (IAST: Kathakaḷi pronunciation ⓘ) is a traditional form of Indian Classical Dance, and one of the most complex forms of Indian theatre. It is native to the Malayalam -speaking state of Kerala and is almost entirely practiced by the Malayali people. [1][2][3] It is a play of verses.
In Malayalam, "Katha" means story, and "Kali" means play, so the term interprets as a play or storytelling art. However, Kathakali is much more than mere storytelling, as a profound and elaborate art form. Kathakali is believed to have evolved in Kerala in the 17th century.
