For anyone else struggling with the same issue, make sure to read this article carefully. For reference, I’m not using Ionic, only Capacitor. The main thing to watch out for is adding var(--safe-area-inset-top) and var(--safe-area-inset-bottom) to the correct components, since Ionic applies these automatically in most cases.
