The Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN), part of the School of Applied Sciences at The University of Mississippi, is the only federally funded national center dedicated to applied research, education and training, and technical assistance for child nutrition programs. The Institute was established by Congress in the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 1989.
ICN’s research-based education and training resources are designed to help district school nutrition directors/supervisors, managers, and nutrition assistants/technicians meet the challenges of the day to day operations of successful school nutrition programs.
Thousands of users are taking advantage of ICN’s new eLearning Portal. The new system offers free, self-paced online courses that provide an excellent method of meeting professional standards requirements. Courses can be taken over multiple sessions, on different computers and mobile devices, and they are coded with USDA Professional Standards Codes and SNA Key Areas.
The Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) offers free group training on a broad range of topics for child nutrition professionals working in school nutrition and child care settings. In addition to training sessions at the Institute’s headquarters at The University of Mississippi, training may be requested free-of-charge for presentation at local sites throughout the country.
ICN’s research-based education and training resources are designed to support CACFP professionals in successfully implementing the program’s requirements.
