Jaffa is an ancient Mediterranean port that is now part of Tel Aviv–Yafo, Israel. Its earliest known settlement was by the Canaanites, but it passed hands frequently between ancient rulers. In the 19th century it became one of the most important cities in Ottoman Palestine.
