Race: Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase

It’s no surprise to see Gerri Colombe at the head of the market for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase given he is unbeaten in seven starts. He has looked a superstar from day one and, after a relatively low-key hurdling campaign, he has really taken off over fences. A dual Grade 1 winner over the bigger obstacles, he was only workmanlike when winning most recently at Sandown, hitting a bit of a flat spot but running on well up the hill to see off Balco Coastal. His stamina for the 3 miles trip is not yet proven, and he isn’t really bred for it, but he didn’t look to be stopping over 2m 4f last time out, or when winning a novice hurdle over 2m 7f. He’s yet to be tested left-handed and has to prove he will stay, so might not be banker material.

Verdict: Beatable
