Vegas Jack – 3-year-old gelding; Adam West – a lightly-raced son of Bated Breath, Vegas Jack’s form continues to work out extremely well and he looked unlucky not to score for the first time in his career last time out at Salisbury. Stumbling at the start, he ended up too far back off a very slow pace, but did very well to get within a neck of a progressive winner. A similar contest looks his for the taking in the next few weeks.
In The Breeze – 5-year-old gelding; Michael Appleby – connections appear to have finally worked out how to ride this son of Derby-winner Harzand, who looks much happier held up. He did extremely well to win two back off a dawdle and again did well to finish third at Windsor last time out, tiring late on having had to make up ground early off a slow pace. A drop in trip won’t bother him and a mark of 77 is within his range on his past form.
Catwalk Model – 4-year-old filly; Amy Murphy – Catwalk Model ran a remarkable race at Windsor last Sunday, shaping like a horse that is well ahead of her mark. Having blown the start, she had to make a huge early move to catch up and the fact that she was still well there with a furlong to run is extremely noteworthy. She eventually faded to be beaten 2.75 lengths, which was understandable, but still managed to run the second best final 3f splits – compensation awaits when she gets away on terms.
