England’s Lionesses are 1/2 favourites to beat 9/2 underdogs Italy in normal time in the sides’ Women’s Euro 2025 semi-final at the Stade de Geneve. Sarina Weigman’s quality-packed bench should see them through, but their defensive frailties may make for a nervous night.

Women’s Euro 2025: Lionesses have quality edge but defence remains vulnerable
England have played Italy twice during the last two-and-a-half years winning 2-1 at the Arnold Clark Cup in February 2023 and 5-1 in a friendly international 12 months later.
Backing the Lionesses to win in a match featuring over 2.5 goals at 6/5 looks a solid way to beef up the odds on the European champions coming through without recourse to extra time.
Weigman was able to call game changing quality of the bench in the shape of Arsenal duo Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyeman and should have the attacking resources to outgun the Azzurre for the nations’ third successive meeting.
However, England have kept just one clean sheet in Switzerland, shipping two each to France and Sweden, the better quality teams they’ve faced so far. Italy are yet to be blanked at the tournament and can contribute to the goal total, with veteran striker Cristiana Girelli in fine form.

Women’s Euro 2025: Late drama can continue to make second-half highest scoring
Both England and Italy were reliant on second-half salvos to secure their semi-final spots, with the Lionesses taking Sweden to extra time having been 2-0 down at the break and Andrea Soncin’s outfit notching either side of a 66th minute equaliser to down Norway.
Three of the Italians’ four games en route to this juncture have seen two or more goals netted after the interval, with the same statistic applicable to the English. That could well be enough to land odds of 11/10 about the second half being the highest scoring.
Another cagey opening period feels likely given Lionesses boss Weigman will surely have stressed the importance of not giving themselves another mountain to climb, while the Azzurre have kept three first-half clean sheets in four games at this tournament.
