Liabilities Leicester can provide City with respite from recent suffering
Manchester City came close to registering their first win in five games on Boxing Day, when Erling Haaland’s missed penalty could have secured them a win over Everton.
Pep Guardiola’s side shouldn’t have to wait much longer for some seasonal succour though, with a visit to Leicester’’s King Power Stadium next on the agenda.
The Foxes savoured a win and a comeback draw in their first two games under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, but have lost 4-0, 0-3 and 3-1 since then, hinting at a level of dysfunction even this ailing City side should be able to exploit.
City are just 3/10 for the win, but far better value is to be had in backing them to win with both teams to score at 13/10. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in 13 games, while Leicester have found the net in all of their home games this term prior to the shutout loss to Wolves last time.
Tip: Man City to beat Leicester & both teams to score @ 13/10
Goodison goals will continue to be a rare commodity when Forest visit
Everton host Nottingham Forest in a match which represents top or bottom of the table clashes in various EPL stats standings – specifically with regard to a lack of goals in their matches.
The sides are joint top of the Premier League clean sheets table with seven apiece, while the Toffees are rock-bottom of the top-flight average total goals per game (2.18) table, one place below their visitors (2.39).
Sean Dyche’s men also have the lowest total xG in the league (18.74), while only Arsenal and Liverpool have a lower xG-against than Forest (21.53) so it’s unlikely the New Year’s Eve fireworks will be going off early here.
All sorts of low-score bets leap out, including a chunky looking 15/2 about what would be the hosts’ fifth 0-0 in their last eight games, but preference is for a slightly more pragmatic under 1.5 goals at 19/10. It’s a bet which has copped in five of Everton’s last eight.
Tip: Everton vs Nottm Forest under 1.5 goals @ 19/10
Back Reds’ roadgoing rearguard woes to add value to win over the Irons
Liverpool are just 4/11 to defeat West Ham at the London Stadium, as is to be expected from a side that have won 11 of their 13 away games in all competitions this season.
Those measly odds are expected to land comfortably enough against an Irons side that have been beaten 3-1 by Man City, 3-0 by Chelsea and 5-2 by Arsenal on home turf this season, but the Irons can help bump up the value of an away win by finding the net.
Liverpool have been easy enough to breach on their travels in recent fixtures, conceding twice or more in five of their last seven on the road and at least once in six of those games – shipping three to a chaotic Tottenham side last time they left Anfield.
