It’s not every weekend that the best Premier League bets come from the best Premier League games, but that’s exactly what has occurred in matchweek 14.

No goals no Howe for Red Devils at St James’ Park

Newcastle are deserved 20/21 favourites to beat Manchester United having won eight of their 10 outings on Tyneside this term. Victims during that sequence include Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The visitors have already lost away to Tottenham, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen this season, while all bar one of their away wins have come by single-goal margins against struggling sides Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham.

After letting a 3-1 lead slip away to Galatasaray in midweek another road game is a tough ask, especially against hosts that have stopped them scoring in three of the sides’ last four meetings.

Eddie Howe’s side beat United to nil in the last two editions of this fixture and having won to nil in four of their last five EPL home games odds of 13/5 about a shutout success are well worth chancing.

Seagulls overpriced for away trip to inconsistent Chelsea

Stamford Bridge hosts a clash between two sides reverting to the mean after unsustainable starts to the season. Chelsea’s start was unsustainably bad while Brighton’s was unsustainably brilliant.

While the hosts have shown signs of improvement of late they remain far too inconsistent not to oppose as 4/6 favourites – as the 4-1 loss to Newcastle that followed their 4-4 draw with Man City attests to.

Brighton look ideal accomplices in such an endeavour. Roberto de Zerbi named a much-changed side when the Seagulls went down 1-0 in west London in the EFL Cup back in September but they beat Chelsea home and away in the league last term and haven’t lost to them in the EPL since 2020.

A 2-1 defeat away to City is the sole reverse De Zerbi’s men have suffered during their last nine matches in all competitions and they have the quality to claim a point against Chelsea if not more. The Blues have won just once of their seven EPL home games this term, against lowly Luton.

Wrong to write off Spurs against City side short of their merciless best

Tottenham’s table topping start to the season may be over after successive defeats to Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa, but 8/1 underdog status at the Etihad still seems somewhat derisory.

After all Spurs are something of a bogey team for Pep Guardiola’s treble winners, having won three of their last four showdowns and been 2-0 up at half time in the other, only to succumb 4-2 on the back of a Riyad Mahrez masterclass.

City haven’t been at their best over their last three games – drawing 4-4 away to a flawed Chelsea side, missing countless chances in the 1-1 home draw with Liverpool and needing a three-goal second-half salvo to erase a 2-0 half time deficit against Red Bull Leipzig in midweek.

Backing their bogeymen at odds-against with a two-goal cushion looks like a live play here.
