The international break may be in progress but thankfully some of League One and much of League Two continue unabated for fans of English football betting.

Two of Wales’ representatives in the EFL are amongst the best bets on offer this weekend, while the visitors look underrated in an exciting meeting between two of the fourth tier’s early front-runners.

League 1 & 2 weekend betting tips

Wrexham to beat Shrewsbury to nil @ 6/4
Newport County to beat Port Vale (draw no bet) @ 13/10
Doncaster vs Gillingham – Under 1.5 goals @ 9/4

Red Dragons can rely on rearguard to see Salop off without a sniff

Last season’s promoted sides continued to make life in the third tier look easy, with Stockport top of the table and Wrexham second on goal difference.

Phil Parkinson’s men are just 4/9 to take advantage of the leaders’ weekend off to usurp them at the summit by beating Shrewsbury, who snapped a sequence of three straight league losses by beating rock-bottom Leyton Orient at home last weekend.

The Red Dragons are a far more fearsome foe and they should be too strong for the visitors at STōK Cae Ras, where they seek their fourth win from five league games.

Wrexham have kept clean sheets in the last three of those outings with a shutout of Bolton at the Toughsheet Stadium arguably the most impressive of the trio.

That gives the 6/4 about a win to nil for the Welshmen an attractive look against visitors that have lost both their away league games to nil so far this term.

Tip: Wrexham to beat Shrewsbury to nil @ 6/4

Now not the time to desert a County side underrated again

Newport County have delivered winning wagers for followers of news.betzone.co.uk in each of the last three weekend tipping columns and still they’re scorned by the bookies.

Nelson Jardim’s men toughed out a 0-1 draw away to Morecambe last time out to move up to fourth in League Two on the back of their third successive win. Yet somehow they’re as big as 21/10 to beat 11th-placed Port Vale at Rodney Parade.

The Valiants have won just once of their four fixtures in this division since dropping down from the third tier last term and shipped four at Barrow and three at home to Doncaster in their last two league games.

So underrated are Newport that they’re available at 13/10 with the insurance of draw no bet, which looks like must-back material in their current form.

Tip: Newport County to beat Port Vale (draw no bet) @ 13/10

Take advantage of lack of respect bookies are showing table toppers

Mark Bonner’s Gillingham have made an excellent start to the campaign, winning three and drawing one of the first four league games to top the nascent third tier table.

It’s something of a surprise then to see them available at a whopping 16/5 to win away to fifth-placed Doncaster and as big as 21/20 just to avoid defeat. This a side that have shipped just one league goal so far this term.

However, Donny are among the title favourites this term and head the current total xG standings for the division (as per Whoscored.com), so finding a way to land the 3/4 about the home win may not prove beyond them.

Instead a good value way to side with the Kent club to outrun their odds could come by way of backing under 1.5 total match goals at a chunky 9/4.
The Gills’ last three league games have produced a grand total of two, while lowly Morecambe were only beaten 1-0 in Donny’s last home league game.

Tip: Doncaster vs Gillingham – Under 1.5 goals @ 9/4
