A second-season novice, Gaillard Du Mesnil already has a placed effort over fences at the Festival to his name, having finished 3rd in last year’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. He was staying on well at the end there and wasn’t stopping when filling the same position in last year’s Irish Grand National either. He has broken through at Grade 1 level this season and would have been a short price to avenge last year’s defeat in the Brown Advisory had he run, but he looks likely to run in this longer, and weaker, race. It’s hard to find any real holes in him, and he should take plenty of beating.
