The sixth round of NFL regular season sees the chasing pack given a chance to ratchet up the pressure on the league’s two teams still in possession of perfect 5-0 record – the Chiefs and the Vikings – given the week off

AFC South table toppers the Houston Texans’ porous defence offers up an interesting betting opportunity vs the Patriots, while a sky-high totals line is anything but far fetched when the Cardinals face Green Bay and Panthers are relied upon to come up well short again.

NFL Week 6 Predictions

Packers vs Cardinals over 50.5 points @ 19/20
Patriots Over 15.5 points vs Texans @ 10/11
Falcons (-5.5) to beat Panthers @ 17/20

Scoreboard fireworks expected when Cardinals visit Lambeau Field

The totals line has nudged it way’s north of the half-century mark for Arizona Cardinals’ road assignment against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field and it’s easy to see why.

Odds of 19/20 about over 50.5 points looks more than fair given three of the Cardinals five matches so far this season have produced at least 51, while their trip to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend only fell short by four.

Green Bay are more than capable of playing their part on recent evidence. Two of their five games so far this term served up totals in the sixties, while they scored 29 points or more three times already in the 2024 campaign.

Pick: Packers vs Cardinals over 50.5 points @ 19/20

Pats points the play against generous Houston Texans defensive line

The Texans have been on a tear early on this term, racking up four wins to just one loss, with that defeat coming to the Minnesota Vikings, one of two 5-0 teams left in the NFL.

On that form they ought to be strongly fancied to beat the 1-4 Patriots, but three of their four wins have come by a margin of four points or fewer, while none have come by more than six.

The Houston defence has yet to give up less than 19 points in matches this season and that offers an intriguing angle into betting on the fixture with New England trading at 10/11 to score 16 or more.

Eliot Wolf’s outfit may be suffering amid a four game losing streak at present but they’ve managed totals north of the 5.5 line twice in five games so far this season and look fair value to do so again against the Texans’ relatively generous defending.

Pick: Patriots Over 15.5 points vs Texans @ 10/11

Falcons should soar to comfortable success against punchbag Panthers

Only two NFL teams conceded more regular season points than the Carolina Panthers last term, but the Charlotte franchise are making the early running for outright worst defence this time around having shipped an unparalleled 165 already in 2024.

Carolina have finished at least 10 points in arrears in each of the four losses they’ve suffered in their first five games of the campaign, which makes the 17/20 available about the Falcons (-5.5) to cover look more than backable.

Atlanta (3-2) top the NFC South on the back of successive close wins over the Saints (26-24) and the Bucs (36-30 OT), but they’re a team in good form and can prevail by a wider margin against foes that have lost heavily against the Bears and Bengals in their last two matches.

Those rivals sit bottom of the NFC and AFC’s northern divisions respectively.

Pick: Falcons (-5.5) to beat Panthers @ 17/20
