Midweek EFL: The relentless EFL fixture list always offers punters plenty of midweek sustenance and the first such slate of term comes this Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with League One and Two action on offer.
League One looks like a fiendish coupon with all manner of short-priced home favourites. The fourth tier, by contrast, looks to have plenty of intriguing betting heats.
Midweek EFL: Only one winner at Blundell Park on early xG evidence
Grimsby Town look to have been underestimated as 9/5 match betting underdogs away to Walsall, with the sides at opposite ends of the nascent League Two xG standings.
The Mariners have both the highest xG-for rating after three games (1.87 according to FootyStats) and the fourth lowest xG against (0.90). Meanwhile, Mat Sadler’s hosts have the division’s lowest xG at 0.78 and the seventh worst xG-against total in the third tier (1.37).
Walsall managed just 33% possession and lost the shot count 8-4 in their 2-1 away win at Barnet last time out, despite the hosts getting a man sent off in the 53rd minute.
Grimsby are the top scorers in the division after four games and must have a great chance of adding substance to the aforementioned stats. The 9/10 about them draw-no-bet appeals, but at 9/5 to win, there’s plenty to take confidence in for those playing the straight win at bigger odds.

Midweek EFL: Pre-season drop candidates written off too easily on form
Harrogate’s status as one of the pre-season favourites for relegation does much to explain their status as 9/5 underdogs at home to Barrow on Tuesday evenings.
However, the league table offers much less justification. Town are unbeaten with five points from their first three games, whereas the Cumbrians have three points and have already lost twice.
The Sulphurites bested Barrow 2-0 away at Holker Street when the sides last met in January of this year and have already put a strong showing at The Exercise Stadium this season in the 3-3 draw with Grimsby, when Simon Weaver’s side led 3-1 until the 84th minute.

Midweek EFL: Robins a generous price at home to Bees yet to find their feet
Filed squarely under home favourites at a backable price this Tuesday evening are Ian Holloway’s Swindon Town, who are Evens to beat promoted Barnet at The County Ground.
Barnet were fancied to go well up a level after finishing last season much the best side in the National League but have struggled so far, losing their first three games.
After losing their opener away to Walsall, the Robins have now won their last two in League One and look a fair price to continue the Bees’ wait for a first point of 2025/26.
