Villarreal have made a decidedly underwhelming start to the campaign, winning just twice in their first nine games across all competitions and losing three of their first four home fixtures.
A draw wouldn’t be the worst result for Jose Rojo Martin’s men as a result and fortunately for them visitors Rennes are draw specialists par excellence. Unbeaten in 12 games dating back to last season they’ve drawn five of their eight games in 2023/24.
The French side have drawn all three of their road games so far this term with scores of 1-1, 0-0 and 0-0 hinting at a ‘respect-the-point’ mentality. Against struggling hosts that feels like a recipe for shared spoils.
